Hi guys! Happy to report that the BCNH(Black-crowned Night Heron) colony near my place is once again populated. I went there late last December and population was zero. I went back last Sunday and once again the place was bustling with activity! Black-crowned Night Heron (Nycticorax nycticorax) Camera Nikon D90 Exposure 0.002 sec (1/500) Aperture f/5.6 Focal Length 400 mm ISO Speed 200 Handheld Cropped a weeeeeee bit. They are back and breeding again so for the next few weeks they will be busy nest building flying back and forth with nesting materials. They go from right to left to get materials.. Camera Nikon D90 Exposure 0.001 sec (1/1000) Aperture f/5.6 Focal Length 400 mm ISO Speed 200 Handheld And then predictably fly back from right to left.. to build the nest. Camera Nikon D90 Exposure 0.001 sec (1/800) Aperture f/5.6 Focal Length 400 mm ISO Speed 200 Handheld I have been informed that there is such a thing called "local" migration and unless shown otherwise, I would record the absence last month as that. Thanks to Sir BobK for the info

was about to say "I can't imagine what birds would look like if they celebrated the yuletide" then I saw your avatar. At any rate, I'll give the birdies a visit tomorrow for you, maybe bring candles, wine, soft jazz
