Woohoo! started 2011 birding season with a sortie with wife Aphine at our favorite wetland. Thought it would be a solo sortie but was thinking someone that would be matching my insanity, it was no surprise to see fellow birdnuts Doc Chito & Bong shooting the geese. Probably the closest shots of these birds so far, from about 50m. Can't wait to see their posts.
The geese moved to a more accessible area Northwest of the watch tower, as the filed where before were before are now plowed and planted with rice . When Doc Chito and Bong was shooting, they landed in the left most pond behind the farmers house.
It's good to go there within the week as the farmers are starting to till the area, but pretty soon I think there will be no more area for the geese to go but the mayor's pond. But they might get scared away and would not find that place a suitable resting area and move on.
Left yesterday at sunset with the geese still in the middle of the field (was hoping that they'll make one last flyby for the day) that can be seen from the main road going to Paralaya.
All I got was a shot from a kilometer.
GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE (Anser albifrons)
5DM2 + 600mm f4 IS + 2x Kenko TC, f5.6 (f12.2), 1/640 sec, ISO 400, manual exposure, Tripod-Gimbal support.
Also first to see a flock of Wandering Whistling-Duck (Dendrocygna arcuata) in that area.
5DM2 + 600mm f4 IS + 1.4x Sigma TC, f5.6, 1/3200 sec, ISO 400, manual exposure, Plain Idol's bean bag support on car window filled with styro beads.
Will post the other regulars later.. ;D
