Just got back from a prison stint and the first photo I saw was that of Edu's awesome capture of the Naked-faced Spiderhunter at La Mesa Eco Park. This surely made my withdrawal symptoms worst and I need to get a quick fix if I want to remain sane for the rest of the week. Thanks a lot to Bob for agreeing to take me along since my car was color coded for the day. Not the ideal lighting conditions for shooting for birdphotography that the 5DM2 was pushed to its limit to produce some decent shots. one would think after a prison stint, you would need some practice to get up to speed.. WRONG!

After seeing the latest captures of this bird I could not help myself but go back there again to try a different approach in taking its photo. Brought along a flash with better beamer this time, to use as a fill in on low shutter captures. Only 2 frames came out good from this mornings sortie. 5DM2 + 600 mm f4 IS + 2x Kenko TC + 580EX II w/ Flash extender, f6.3 (f13), 1/40 sec, ISO 1600, Tripod-Gimbal support.

Somehow I knew you will not be satisfied with the captures we got last Friday. ;D
This latest photo of course, justifies the return trip (and the long wait, and the drizzle, and the hunger)...but boy, what a payoff!! ;D
Superb shot, great use of the flash!

Thanks again Bob, Edu and Rey! Would love to go back there as a lot of my shots were off as I was used to shooting away with Tv setting and when I switched to manual again I just fired away as usual without checking the meter. I would have gotten more better shots if I was just paying attention to the changes in light. Here's a recovered over exposed slow shot. save for an offending foreground leaf and motion blur on the head I loved the general softness of this shot. Great macro shot Sir Neon. You even got the spider webs in its beak and face. It was fun birding (again) with you.
