Hi. My name is Nelson Petilla, a newly infected guy with avian flu for my self-prescribed medication, i bought an EF100-400mm f4.5-5.6L lens to compliment my Canon 7D. but the effect of the 'cure' is the other way around, i always experience high fever if i can't go out and shoot our feathered friends! Am hoping this fever will stay with me for so long so to digitally capture even just a half of the listed 230 bird species of Samar. Birds photographed in technically and artistically acceptable way -which am sure can be learned thru this forum, from you guys, certified birdnuts! By the way, Samar Island is identified by the Birdlife International as one of the nine Endemic Bird Areas (EBAs) of the Philippines. thanks admin for accepting me as a new forum member in this premier website on Philippine wild bird photography.

Welcome to " bird lunatic community " Nelson ... Everybody is looking for a cure of this particular Bird Flu strain. Unfortunately, there are no cure as of the moment and adverse side effect is fatally bank breaking. We all have to live with it as long virus is hosting with in us. Looking forward to see you in the future sortie. Cheers, drboymac

Welcome Nelson. I was able to travel around Eastern Visayas up to Biliran (the roads even to the barrios are cemented) and saw interesting birds near the waterfall areas. You might want to get in touch with the Wild Bird Club of the Philippines Chapter in Tacloban headed by Ms. Helly Asoy of the Paruparong Bukid Conservation Center. Samar is another place to explore. Your captures will definitely help build awareness in another area of the Philippines where wildlife protection is very much needed. So you are the Petilla that will do ikot ng Samar for birds. will eaglery wait for your post teyds

Thanks for the welcome Bobby. Guiuan is a place to go! not just for birds but also for fresh seafoods and natural sceneries. Waray-waray birds are lovely especially the flower-peckers.
