Instead of shooting the Ferruginous FC in UPD I got to shoot this OZ bird. I'm now stuck in Perth for more than a week now, without any gears, imagine even my phone cam is not working as well !!! Thanks again to Aa for taking time to show me around his birding places and for lending me his Bigma and Sony A550 rig. I Could not remember the place we went to but it was a good birding site. This small robin was the welcoming committee. Scarlet Robin ( Petroica boodang) Sony A550 + Sigma 50-500mm (Bigma)@500mm, f6.3, 1/125 sec, ISO 200, Tv priority, + 0.7 EV, Hand held.

Very nice, as usual! The Sony A550 photos look good - how do you find its usability in the field?

Thanks, Enrique!
As any brand DSLR, familiarity of the controls is the limiting factor. Didn't get to test the body that much as I would have lost shooting opportunities, just learned the important controls and fired away ;D Subject distance is also a big factor!
It also depend on the lens you are using that a good photo result. I guess the ability of the body was restricted by the lens as the widest aperture of the "Bigma" @ 500mm is f6.3. From the looks of it, Aa's copy of the "Bigma" is a winner!

If there is any place to be stuck in, it would be Perth. Plus you have AA to bring you to where the birds are. Looks like you have adapted well to AA's gear. Good looking birds. Well done Neon. Mabuhay.

it's the first field test of the a550 + bigma combo in birding and i think whatever gear an experienced birder uses, he will deliver......awesome shots mate the 2 other birds are varied sitella (daphoenositta chrysoptera) and tree martin (hirundo nigricans)

Thanks Ely and Aa! @ Aa, thanks for the ID, wow didn't know this was the first field test for that rig. Looks like an awesome rig to me! I was shooting with quite low shutters speeds due to an ISO 200 increasing it to 400 would produce more sharper shots.

Thanks Rey & Edwin! Here are some more shots from the previous sortie with Aa where the A550 was paired with a Minolta 300mm f2.8, can't remember if a TC was also installed. All shots were in Tv priority, ISO 200 and hand held. Shooting conditions where not ideal as it was overcast with intermittent drizzles, sunny at times when the sun was overhead already. f4.0, 1/640 sec +1 EV f5.6 f2.8, +1 EV f14, 1/160 f7.1, 1/640, +1 EV
