This bird can be found in Mindanao in 1000-1700 meters. We saw this bird last year but did not get to photograph it. It did not sit still then and it still did not this trip! But it stayed put long enough for this photo lifer. Its too bad this bird did not give us many chances to photograph it. But I am very happy to have photographed this Mindanao montane speciality to add to our collection. Grey-hooded SunbirdAethopyga primigeniusCanon 5Dmk2, 500mm, 1.4xtc, 1/250, f7.1, ISO 320, tripod

Wow this is beautiful Tonj. Very sharp and well exposed and I think it was very still to get it this sharp.

Beautiful! Looks like the weather there is a bit overcast/rainy? But still, very nice shot!

Another awesome take, Tonji! These montane species are really hard to get as there are no roads going that high in Mindanao unlike here in Luzon.

Rey, yes it did sit there and it allowed me to take four photos. I think if I had more time and I may have gotten better looks. Alain, it was overcast a lot. It rained every afternoon and three times at night. Mornings were always good till around 1:30 or so and it would get cloudy then start to drizzle or rain. Thanks Clem, Neon and William. Thanks Telyds, now that I am home I am quite content with our trip and what we have seen. I think we were quite lucky to have seen so many birds. It was a great trip.

You are very fortunate to be able to capture such an elusive bird. With the situation that you described to me, I will take this picture anytime. Well done Tonji. Mabuhay.

Thanks for pointing that out Steve. I appreciate the correction. Thanks Ely. I think the bird is probably more common. Its just that during the time we were there we did not get to see it a lot. Maybe its because we were looking for new birds.
