Last Oct. 30, 2010 trip: Grey headed fish eagle 1/2500s f7.1 ISO400 1/160 f10.0 ISO 500 Common Kingfisher 1/80s f7.1 ISO 800 From previous trip. Indigo banded kingfisher This should have been named Common kingfisher in Ipo Dam. There was a time we saw more than 12 in less than half a day. It is so easy to spot the IBKF - but you will have to shoot from a noisy motorized banca. All of the above photos were taken handheld, on a banca with lifevest on.

I can imagine how difficult it is to be taking pictures on a banca. I have tried it before in Alaminos's Hundred Island and it was difficult. Don't you get to see these birds when you have reached your destination? The pictures look good, I presume you are using your 300mm. Well done Lyds. Mabuhay.

Thank you guys for the kind comments. My lens is a 300mm and I am not happy when I use my 1.4 extender. I still have to learn how to use that effectively. The Eagles in Ipo Dam are easy to shoot and will most likely be full frames with your long lenses. The real challenge is shooting BIF's when your mobility is too limited and when you start rocking the boat. . I go to Ipo to share with the community but photography wise, to shoot butterflies but it's always high tide when I go and the place where I saw them was underwater .

I like the Indigo Banded KF! So well lit and out in the open! Too bad though about the butterflies being underwater.
