Took a short break during lunch today and got me this lifer. Lighting is not that good and this beauty does not like to stay too long in one spot. Had to use manual focus because of too many branches and the 7D auto focus is just wandering all over the place . 7D, f5.6, 1/640s, ISO800, manual metering

Conrad, this is a beauty. Likewise with my 7D, manual focus is the way to go when the branches move and/or are in the way.
Do you have more information about this bird? Thanks!

I just took this info from wikipedia:
"The Ruby-crowned Kinglet is a very small songbird of the Kinglet family Regulidae native to North America. Both the male and female have olive-grey plumage with a thin black bill and short tail. The male bears a red crown which gives the bird its common name.
They forage actively in trees or shrubs, mainly eating small insects and spiders, some berries and tree sap. They may hover over a branch while feeding and sometimes fly out to catch insects in flight."
Hope the little info helps. Cheers

Congrats on your lifer and for capturing this hyperactive little bird. Just curious, have you tried using the center focus of the 7D? That way the AF doesn't wander all over the place.

I knew about that focus function but never tried it. I'll try to remember to use it next time in similar situations. Thanks for the reminder. Cheers
