I've gone to faraway birding places and have come home empty-handed. When luck smiles however, I get to capture a rarity while out on a smoke in my garage! What are the odds that of all the urban villages in the metropolis, this little beauty turns up in front of my house? Probably about the same odds that a Spotted Imperial-Pigeon just happens to pass by the Coastal Lagoon when a birdnut with a BIF combo is right below the flight path. ;D If the perch was a photogenic branch, I'd probably have died of cardiac arrest, hehehe. Ferruginous Flycatcher ( Muscicapa ferruginea, rare migrant, immature) Habitat: rare, not shy, perches in the understory of forest, flying out to catch insects. Shooting info - Paranaque City, October 19, 2010, 7D + 500 f4 L IS + Canon 1.4x TC, 700 mm, f/5.6, ISO 800, 1/160 sec, manual exposure in available light, 475B/3421 support. Full story of capture and ID here: birdphotoph.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=id&action=display&thread=6624&page=1Looking forward to the captures of Plain Idol, Tonji and Sylvia. Too bad that the bird was chased away for good by a Brown Shrike before I can get it in a natural perch.

Awesome capture as always, Ka Mastah!! looks like the birds know who to pose for and have its portrait for all the world to see. You just happen to bird more when I'm in jail that's the reward!

Are you just plain lucky? Or do these birds simply know who to look for to have their photograph taken? ;D Superb capture as always from the maestro. First was the pigeon, now this flycatcher. Looks like you're trying to pull off a hat-trick, Ka Mastah.

A rare bird decides to visit the best bird photographer in the land. What??? This bird must have wondered who is this other guy. Heck, I did not fly all the way here for some hack to take my pic, hey I want Romy to take my pic. Well, .... I took some photos. Some with the green BG and some with this stark BG. I must say Romy's photos are the usual awesome. Intimidatingly perfect as usual. I decided on processing this pic which is kind of a different style. Shot wide open to try to melt everything but the bird. Thanks for everything Romy! What a fantastic lifer! ;D ;D ;D Ferruginous Flycatcher Muscicapa ferrugineaCanon 5Dmk2, Canon 1.4x, Canon 500mm , 1/320, f 5.6, iso 320, tripod, manual exposure

It's subject isolation by color differentiation. In our macho vernacular, " hiwalay ang puti sa de kolor."

I do honestly believe that this bird knew you, your home, and had known that you were out on a smoke with your gear all set up and ready to fire that time Mastah! What a fantastic capture as always... and now that you've nailed him, can you give him my address?

First of all let me apologize for just showing up at your place Romy. It was too good of a lifer for me to pass up. Thank you for not getting mad at us. Thank you also to Nimfa and Romeo Jr. for putting up with our noise Thank you Tonji and SYlvia for being "game" in picking me up (was coding so couldn't bring my car) when I asked you guys if you wanted to go to Romy's place and bring me along - HehEHehE Here's my photo of the cutie .... Ferruginous Flycatcher40D + 500 mm f/4 + Sigma 2x tc ; f/5.6 ; ISO 800 ; 1/160 ; tripod Romy: Thank you for lending me the TC I don't have a sigma 2x TC pala. Mine is Kenko. I think I want a Sigma too coz it recognizes the TC (exif says 700mm) and it auto focuses - galing !

Wow...... excellent renditions Sylvia and Tina!!!! Plain Idol, my Sigma TC you used is only a 1.4x, not a 2x TC so your 700 mm in the EXIF is correct. To others who have sent me SMS, the flycatcher was gone for good since yesterday, right after Tina, Sylvia and Tonji got some pics. It was chased away by a brown shrike for the first time in the morning. Fortunately for Tina and company, it came back just before they arrived. It was chased away by a brown shrike again at mid-day and hasn't returned till now. I hope it survived.
