I saw this bird at the Mundijong wetlands where I first met AA. I saw this bird hovering over the field at about 50+ meters probably getting ready to swoop down on the prey. It was the first time that I saw this bird and what a sight to see him flapping his wings without moving away in the same place. Its like a helicopter that is hovering except that his wing were flapping all the time. Unfortunately the prey hid well because the bird did not go down and just moved away. Canon EOS 1D Mark IV, Canon EF 300mm f/2.8L IS USM with Canon Extender 2X II. Gitzo GT3530LS tripod, Wimberley WH200 head. Manual exposure in available light. f/7.1, ISO 1600, 1/1600 f/6.3, ISO 1600, 1/1600 f/7.1, ISO 1600, 1/1600 f/6.3, ISO 1600, 1/1600 f/7.1, ISO 1600, 1/1600

Spectacular shooting of a spectacular bird. Not bad at all for a 2x extender on that 300mm. How far were you?

Interesting BS Kite shots Ely. I like the 4th frame. Thanks for sharing. Thank you Nilo. I wished the sun's shadow did not cover the other eye. It makes the bird look so much better when you can see the eyes.

Thank you Don. I think the lens being f2.8 makes the 2X workable. I was over 50 meters from the bird.

Great set Ely. I like the second shot best. Great eye contact and I like the wing position. Very nice. Thank you Tonji. Anyone who has seen this bird will appreciate how it hovers in the air to look for a prey. It is so beautiful to see nature at its best.

Great series Ely and the eye contact is truly amazing. Thank you Conrad. Those eyes are amazingly beautiful but probably scary to the victims that the bird is about to capture.

Awesome bird in flight shot, Ka Ambassador! Perfect lighting as well - can't get any better than that! Thank you Bobby. That was early morning so the light was not harsh yet. It could have been better if both eyes were lighted. Heh heh heh.

As usual, great shots! I like the last one the most. You are making the most of your birding time there in Australia.
