This was in Coastal Lagoon with Tonji, Tina, Ixi, Bob and Cynthia. I am trying to get back in the birding groove. Coastal looks cleaner and smells better than how I remember it. I was so focused on trying to remember how to take pictures and to get closer to these birds that I didn't even recognize the Tattler! I mistook it for a very large sandpiper. correction: the bird I thought was a Tattler, was a really a sandpiper after all!Common Sandpiper Actitis hypoleucos1/1000, iso 250, f7.1, 7D + EF300mm f/2.8L IS USM +1.4x handheld 7D + EF300mm f/2.8L IS USM +1.4x handheld 1/1000, iso 250, f7.1, 7D + EF300mm f/2.8L IS USM +1.4x handheld Common Sandpiper Actitis hypoleucos1/250, iso 500, f8 7D + EF300mm f/2.8L IS USM +1.4x + Feisol tripod + Markins ballhead

Wonderful shots with pleasing bokeh, Sylvia!
All of these look like a Common Sandpiper to me, including the last one.

I am now using the same lens that you are using. One thing I can say is that it certainly is easier to move around compared to my favorite 800mm. Just wondering why you are using 1.4X instead of 2X for the static birds. Nice shots. Well done Sylvia. Mabuhay.

Oh gosh, thanks for the correction Romy! Aww, too bad, I was hoping I had a good capture of the Grey Tailed Tattler and I could delete the old ones from the website.
Hi Ely, thanks! I only use the 2x when the light is very good. Otherwise, the shots come out very soft.

You made the birds really standout from the background. Great compositions!
Didn't you get shots of the Tattler too?

Great shots, indeed! I like the second one, the BG to me is something and the eye contact makes the difference. I wish the white BG on the left were not there.

Thanks Ariel, Bob, Rey, Tina and Alain!
@tina - you are most welcome to try my gear! Any time! @ Alain - I agree, that white rock is so distracting. @bob - the nices ones I took were just of a big Sandpiper pala. I have to check my shots again to see if there's a Tattler among the not so nice shots. @ariel - I know what you mean! My previous shots at Coastal look so different. Nice that some birds are now hanging out in the "cleaner" areas. @rey - thank you!

Lovely frames of these shorebirds! Looks different than most Coastal shots I have seen.
