hi Romy' this is my first try sharpening using layer mask (i usually sharpen the entire image). Using the PScs5, firsts, i sharpen the eye, the bill, the tarsus and toes using unsharp mask. then i flatten the image. i did a second sharpening again using the unsharp mask for the entire bird, then i reduce the noise. please kindly critic., renoir

Looks good, Renoir.
Some of the larger detail are a bit "too smooth" so I suggest using a larger USM radius for those. The key in sharpening is to think like a sculptor - use fine chisels for small detail, and large chisels for bigger detail.
I also see some "dreamy glow" at the top of the head and above the tail, possibly due to imperfect feathering of the mask or perhaps an innate characteric of the lens's optics. Was this with the 150-500 OS?

hi Romy' thanks for your kind suggestion...for a bit "too smooth", use larger USM radius? i will make such application. Ok i will think like a sculptor for the sharpening. For the some "dreamy glow"? i just hope is from imperfect feathering of the mask and not from the lens...yes this is from the Sigma 150-500mm OS. thank you very much for the kind comment and suggestions...renoir
