Looks like I'll be tempted on this new Canon entry-level body, mainly because of the increased pixel density (thus more reach), with good noise control even at high ISO. 12.2 MP, 3.5 fps. sensor cleaner, 3" LCD, Live View, 14-bit RAW, all at an SRP of USD 799 (about PHP 33++K)!Compared to the 8.2 MP 30D/20D/350D, the 450D's 12.2 MP is similar to adding a 1.22x TC without light loss! The samples put up by DPR have very good noise control even at ISO 1600: www.dpreview.com/gallery/canoneos450d_preview/Oh Gawd, when will this GAS ever end? ;D ;D

Hi Romy!
I sold my 400D as soon as I heard about the 450D!. You're right-the pics do look superb! I can't believe the number of serious upgrades with this cam, such as the new 14 bit raw processor, live view, & 12 MP!.
I wonder how it handles DOP of f/12 -f/18 ? I had a lot of issues with softness using the 400D for landscapes. The ppl at Luminous landscape helped be to realize it is a problem with the 400D- it has diffraction issues above f/12, and the extra Mega pixels actually worsen the problem. So it caused me to doubt whether the 450D is a good answer for me as a second body.
I might look into a buying a 5D instead for landscapes. I have yet to take a good landscape shot using f/12 -f/22.

Hi Bindi, If I recall right, the 30D/20D's pixel pitch is diffraction limited at around f/11. I'd estimate that the 450D's even smaller pixels would be diffraction-limited about 1/3-1/2 stop wider, or f/9 - f/10. I take 99% of my bird pics at f/5.6 - f/7.1, so I think I'm good up to a pixel density of about 16 MP on an APS-size sensor. For landscapes, the 5D sings indeed because wide lenses are really wide and it has a large MP size with bigger pixels. However, I have gotten sharp pics at f/18 even on my 40D's pixel pitch: www.pbase.com/liquidstone/image/85112593/original

Hello Romy! Cool moon picture- Its so detailed and sharp! Well done:) Those calculations do sound about right, according to the charts someone from that forum sent me. I think I was a bit inexperienced when I purchased the 400D, expecting it to be a good landscape camera and backup birding cam. I intended to buy the canon 10-22 or sigma 10-20mm for it, but I'm pretty sure now that I need to get a 5D if I want to take `magical' landscape shots with huge DOF. I think you're right though-the 450D should be really good birding camera. Will you buy one for Pogito ?

Will you buy one for Pogito ? Bindi, I think the 450D is intended for the Papa Pogito ;D

Lol Tina- but of course! Pogito's career is just the cunning excuse to buy new gear (then Romy will have to find a heavy battery pack for the camera, so it is too heavy to carry).

Mwuahaha.... you got the scheme right, ladies*! ;D ;D ;D When Pogito gets better with the basics, he needs to upgrade gear. Being a good father, I'll have to sacrifice mine.... it's up to the domestic boss if she can bear looking at me without an 800 mm IS. *I often wonder if ladies really have a sixth sense.

HAHAHAHA!!! Now that rocked me off my chair Romy! Cunning indeed. Now I need to do the same scheme for myself and perhaps buy my daughter a DSLR soon.

Ha ha- You're so funny Romy!
I don't have babies, very sadly, but you bring up an interesting point- how could I possibly look appealing to my man without a bunch of L lenses around my neck? Its for HIS benefit , and the future of our relationship, that I so adorn myself.
Ha ha, I really like that one!
Our Romy is a true master in every respect:)

Even if birding Ls are too heavy around our necks, we have to sacrifice.... ;D ;D ;D

With his talent, I think Pogito deserves a 1D series body for his next upgrade !!!

Agree, Reyno..... the nestling deserves a 1DM2 ( the male parent starts to research on the net if the 1dm3 AF issues are solved....) ;D ;D ;D With his talent, I think Pogito deserves a 1D series body for his next upgrade !!!
