Hi My three days brand new external Hard Disk fail. Tonight it doesnt want to spin. My PC doesnt recognize it and worst case is that looking for helpful information about it on the internet I found horrendous histories of this specific model. I bought three days ago a 1Tb "My Book Home Edition" external hard disk and began to backup RAW photo data from other external disk that have some weird simptoms days ago. Thanks god the photos are backed up in other place, if not it could be my worst nightmare. If you like to know the good, the bad and the ugly stories of this particular model, take a look at this link: www.amazon.com/review/product/B000WBJDUA?sortBy=bySubmissionDateDescendingSaludos, Rene

Hello Renerpr!
Hard disk failure always brings me to tears, because although I do backup, I don't do it regularly enough!
Rene, have you tested the hard drive outside of the enclosure? In my experience, a poor enclosure will fail more often that the actual hard drive in it.
I use `Lacie' brand external drives, which is a terrific brand. I have 4 of them now, of different vintages. Two are the `porche' models. All of these have been excellent, with no failures. I have tried other models, but each enclosure failed over time, and one took the hard drive out wit it due to heat.
(Please excuse my geekiness; I was in PC tech support for over ten years, and spent a lot of time helping university students each day with their PC problems ).

Hi Romy
I always hear stories about data loss due to hardisk failure, but never think it will happen to me. Thanks god this time nothing happen, ut I will take this issue as a warning and be more diligent to do regular backups in CD or DVD.

Hi Bindi
Thanks a lot for your sugestions. Because it is a brand new disk and after reading so bad post about this model, I will not try to save it. Thanks god, the data is saved in other place and will not loss it.
I just check some Lacie review and almost all are very good, thanks for the recomendation, will try to buy one locally.
