I woke up at 4 am this morning, intending to visit my favorite wetlands. But when I saw that the stars were all blacked out by thick clouds, I cancelled the trip. Went back to my HDDs to do a virtual sortie, hunting for previously unposted captures from Candaba. Found one. I'm always amazed at the power of ducks to take to the air. Their wing area - body weight ratio must be far worse than egrets and herons, but they compensate for the less lift per stroke by doing faster wingbeats. Philippine Duck ( Anas luzonica, a Philippine endemic) Shooting info - Candaba wetlands, Pampanga, April 3, 2007, 1DM2 + 500 f4 L IS + Canon 1.4x TC, 700 mm, f/7.1, ISO 320, 1/1600 sec, 3421/475B support.

I really like the way the duck is smiling. I hope we will have a good season of migrants this year. I remember the first time I went to Candaba with 3 lovely girls accompanying me and showing me around. I saw a lot of ducks and it really amazed me to see so many different kinds swimming and eating in the ponds. This was December 2008. I got my lens February 2009 after I have consulted with you. By the time I went back they were almost all gone or just too far away. The picture is superb just like when you go to a restaurant and eat good simple delicious meals. Well done Romy. Mabuhay.

Thanks folks for the comments! The shot posted above is file name no. KZ2L5249 and it's three frames after KZ2L5246 below, which is the version I've posted most often. The newly posted one was at the optimum BIF-shooter position (check the alignment of the wings). The next frame (KZ2L5250) would already have the duck a bit past the shooter, hence not as aesthetically pleasing as the earlier frames.

Thanks again, folks! Jaw-dropping bif shot mastah! did you pp this newly posted shot on ACR6.1? Yes JV, this was done with ACR 6.2 RC (same engine as 6.1 but with additional support for new cameras). That said, the capture was low ISO using the 1D2's big fat pixels, hence even older ACRs would've done a good job.
