Went to Subic yesterday with Wingmac for the beautiful beautiful bee-eaters. We didn't have good captures in the last sortie so we came back. The birds were so easy to approach that we were able to get really close to get some FF shots. We were positioned almost in the middle of the street to get some close shots, it was good that the birds allowed us to approach them. Blue-throated Bee-eaters. (Merops viridis) This is a full-frame shot but the bird was perched in an electric wire, so I thought of just cropping aggresively so the photo will still be usable. Note the piece of the wire on the right. 40D+EF400mm@400mm,F7.1,1/800,ISO200,Gimbal Support

Now you know why these birds are my favorite birds Although I never go down the car whenever I take photos of them so as not to stress them out specially when they are nesting. Wonderful captures Rey !!!!

Yes, they are really so beautiful. Don't worry I'll always make sure not to stress them though they don't seem to be bothered with people like they will even perch very near where we are watching them. Like if I carry a branch with me, they might even perch on it . Thanks a lot Idol Tins.

Excellent shots, Rey..... an inch closer and we'll be seeing the bee-eaters' DNA. Just want to caution you guys that the full frame habit is extremely addicting!

Thanks a lot for the kind words sirs, TJ, Reyno, Bobby, Jagey and Mastah Romy. I think you're right Master, I'm beginning to feel the urge to go back again and it's only Monday. Got to find the Tariktiks.

Just for fun, after shooting several gigs of the posing birds, we tried to capture some BIF'S as these birds were flying all around the place. Bee-Eaters In-Flight. 40D+EF400mm@400mm,F5.6,1/1000,ISO250,Gimbal Support
