OMG.... that's the cutest creature I've seen in a long time! Amazing detail, colors and pose, big congrats April!
Were you able to ID the bird? I've no idea what owl it is.

Nice catch of a Spotted Wood Owl. Ranges in Palawan and South-east Asia. This species is hard to see in the night time but you were able to capture one during the day! Nice shot!
Congrats!

thanks you all. there is story behind this, the baby owl was injured then a family took care of it, but it would not want to leave them. the family would leave the baby owl so that the mother may come and get him, but the mother would come every night but the baby owl doesn't want to go with the mother owl and wants to stay around the family's backyard instead. Their backyard is more like a forest really.

Highlight of my Coron trip! Erwin and I accidentally stumbled upon it. It looked liked a stuffed toy and I wanted to bring it home!!! Beautiful capture of the Spotted Wood Owl. Its best to leave it in the wild so it can survive. I think having a backup home helps if there is food for him to eat. I hope I will have a chance to see it when I get to go there. In the meantime, I think you should enter it for the contest. It has a good chance of winning. Well done April. Mabuhay.

thanks you all. there is story behind this, the baby owl was injured then a family took care of it, but it would not want to leave them. the family would leave the baby owl so that the mother may come and get him, but the mother would come every night but the baby owl doesn't want to go with the mother owl and wants to stay around the family's backyard instead. Their backyard is more like a forest really. I'm worried after reviewing your notes April. This maybe a case where the owl chick became "human imprinted". Often this would lead to the chick unable to fend for itself and cannot be released into the wild. There are many documented cases and this is the reason why Philippine Eagle caretakers at PEC wear "eagle costumes" while feeding chicks to avoid human imprints. I hope this is not the case and the owl chick will be able to move on to the wild where it belongs. One way is probably not to give it any attention (food/care) if the mother owl still provides care for her lost chick. In other words, the more the caretakers "care" for the owl, the more likely it will not survive in the wild. Since the chick was captured/rescued in the same forest area should give us a level of comfort that the chick can move on. Very cute and difficult not to love this owl.

So cute, good for frames not for cages but best when protected from poachers...
