Hi everyone,
My name is Fred and I'm from Western Australia. I will be travelling to the philippines at the end of August 2010 with my wife. Saddly my wife isnt a birder so I wont be spending all my time birding. oh well.
I will be staying in Minglanilla in Cebu as that is where family is from, but we will be going to Palawan, Bohol and Davao as well.
I am still looking for specific places to visit and where the best places to see specific birds are.
Cant wait, really excited and I hope to see some of you there.

Hi Fred. There are two major places to go to in Palawan. One is Puerto Princesa which I know nothing about and the other one is Coron, Busuanga. I have been there several times and the most common birds there are the Ruddy Kingfisher, Oriental Dwarf Kingfisher, Hooded Pitta and Chestnut-breasted Malkoha. If you are interested to go to this place, please email me at elyteejr2008@gmail.com and I will give you more details.
Cheers & Mabuhay

HI guys, thanks so much for your comments, well I leave on Wednesday and I will be with you very soon. I just heard that Palawan is a bad place for me to visit, rebels have a taste for white meat apparently! Can anyone back this up? Dont want to take my family there if there is a risk. And now thinking about it, is there anywhere else that is risky?

Not Palawan; Mindanao, or parts thereof, yes. But Palawan? I'm more afraid of the mosquitoes there than anything else. If you ever want to bird, and have a great chance of success, Palawan should be at the top of you list. :-)

Hey guys, im here! I am staying in Poblacion, Minglanilla. Not many birds, mmmmm, all im seeing are Sparrows. I have seen one Fantail, so that was nice but there is also Swifts flying around. Can anyone tell me which one it will be? Also what else might I see around here, i dont think very much. Its strange to not even see seagulls on the shore. Strange place but I am enjoying myself.

Oh crap, sorry guys. I have been so busy travelling all over this great nation of yours that I havent had time to check back here.
Well I go back to Australia on Friday, but, I will be going to Olango Thursday the 16th, I want to go early but Im not sure when I will get there, anyone interested in joining me I would love the company.
Also thinking of going to SRP? I think that is what its called, the wetland just before the city limits, off that new highway part. Let me know what you think.
