This bird is usually inside the foliage and its good that you were able to get him in the open. Well done JV. Mabuhay.

This bird has just finished its breakfast, the toothpick is evident in its mouth! Nice shot!

That's a beautiful composition JV! Love the creamy background and the nice soft light that encompasses the bird and the foliage. 5 Stars!!!

He, he... the film director always has drama in his shot. This shot reminds me of the scene in Crouching Tiger where the duel was like a dance amongst the towering bamboos. If you had video-ed it, a Yo-yo Ma cello score will surely fit, even if the "dance" of the Coucal was on ipil-ipil.
BTW, Yo-yo's sister is married to a Filipino. His niece is Inday, and the nephew is Ondoy. There is your connection to the Marikina River shot. Ahi-hi... telyds

Thanks very much for the inspiring comments, fellows.. It looked very sleepy as it slowly made its way to the outer branch of the Ipil-ipil .. it may have eaten a leaf or an insect...but i think it plucked a tender flower stalk... (that may have had an insect on it) will take a closer look at some of my outtakes of that session...

Telyds, this shot was actually a safety take before the video shot... but by the time i had pressed the video button on, and by the time the lens had stabilized, the elusive Coucal took off!... i'm still on its trail to film it.. and one day i will succeed! ...and yes! i adore Yo-yo-ma's music!

Thanks Neon, what distinguishes the Philippine Coucal from the Greater Coucal and the Lesser Coucal?..

Bobby, all the elements in the scene came together.. the overcast pastel morning sky, the slight wind, then the coucal suddenly emerged from the grass below... a lucky shot!

Excellent lighting and composition here JV. I agree with Neon, this looks like a Lesser Coucal from the streaks. Thanks for sharing.
