Since my sorties are few and far between, I decided to make the most of last weekend. Starting in Subic with Rey and Bong, moving on the Balanga to meet-up with Romy and Nestor, then flying solo in Candaba. This has only been my second time in Candaba, and now I'm wondering "what took me so long to go back"? What I really learned here was the invaluable use of a car as a blind and a beanbag for support. I saw the Shirke fly off the road with what looked like a piece of string at first. I took a shot after it perched and only realized after that it was a snake!

Thanks again Tina! Packing up was hard to do! At around 4:30pm, it was so overcast and the sun was hiding behind the clouds. I was patiently waiting along a "corridor" where the Purple Herons would fly across towards big pond. I never got my BIF shot. Of course as I packed up and drove home, the sun started to re-appear casting its golden light. And I spooked 2 Purple Herons behind the tall grass along the side of the rode as I drove by. No pics but quite an image committed to memory. Nevertheless, I'm still very happy with my haul!

I can just image how you felt TJ. I always have a difficult time leaving Candaba whenever Wency and I are there.
I'm already looking forward to our Candaba sortie this weekend.
Was supposed to stay there overnight but if the group is going to San Juan on Monday, I should get at least one day rest before that trip since it will be a long drive.

What a productive day for you, TJ! The one you're asking for ID if it is a Northern Shoveler..the answer is yes, in a transitional plumage.
