A little larger than a zebra dove, around the size of a Spotted dove. I saw this bird in a small flock of three birds. It has an interesting pattern on the breast. They were kind of shy though and did not want to be photographed. Maybe it was my printed Hawaiian shirt....hmmm. I have other birds to process, I will try to do a few more tomorrow. Little Cuckoo-doveMarcopygia ruficeps, 27cm Canon 5Dmk2, Canon 1.4x tc, Canon 500mm f4, 1/125, f5.6, ISO 800, Feisol tripod, Manfrotto Gimbal

It looks like our Spotted Dove, do you think its the same bird with a different name. Looks like birding in Borneo is a good respite from the hot weather here and scarcity of birds. I am sure you had a good vacation with the numerous birds as a bonus. Sylvia must still be selecting and processing the pictures she took. Looking forward to see more of yours and Sylvia's captures.

Hi Ely. Yes it does have a slight similarity with the Spotted dove because of the size and some markings at the back of the neck but the color and other markings are very different. Its kinda like a reddish, orange, brown.
Birding in Mt. Kinabalu was a great break. It was cool with lots of birds. I have so many to process but I usually take a long time deciding which pictures I like so I end up just doing one at a time.
Sylvia climbed the mountain to the peak at 13000+ feet with our daughter and did not do bird photography during this trip. She was on mountain climbing mode for this vacation.

If there were some snow flaxes in there, it could have been a perfect Christmas postcard!

Great shot of a beautiful bird, Tonji. Hope to see more from your high-altitude expedition.

Thanks Bob. So many birds..super slow laptop! Haha. Thanks Alain, yup lots of pine trees there. It was zero degrees up in the peak of the mountain. It's a good thing I was just at 5000ft. Thanks Mark. I will try to process more before I get distracted by another birding trip.
