This is supposed to be my entry to the contest (photo 1) but I really could not figure out how to trim it to exactly 1200x900. I'm too busy and too lazy to learn to photo shop. And after seeing the shots of the big guns... whoa.. I have come to my senses, this is the right thread for me. He, he. The opportunity was heaven sent. It was just right outside the window of my daughter's room (2nd floor). I tell you, watching how the mother and father OSB fed the pair of chicks and how they took turns watching, it was perfect timing, not just to witness such display of tlc (tender loving care) but for the contest, too - a winning shot! But now I realized, being able to take these photos made me a sure winner already. It was an awesome privilege to see Matthew 6:26 at work. If I posted it in the Entries, I will not be able to share this, since no comments are allowed there . God really loves me. I'm so happy. Canon 40D F4L 300mm, handheld, available light Female 0.012 sec (1/83) Aperture: f/4.0 ISO Speed: 320 Male 0.012 sec (1/83) Aperture: f/4.0 ISO Speed: 320 Chicks 0.1 sec (1/10) Aperture: f/6.4 ISO Speed: 640 "Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?" Matthew 6:26 (NIV)

Those are beautiful images 'te Lyds. I hope someone in Manila can help you out with your concern on resizing images. It's actually quite easy, depending on the PP software you are using. With Painshop Pro X2, it's a matter of a drop down menu and typing in your desired size, with some other restrictions/choices which you just click on, and that's it. :-)

What a wonderful paradise you have there. If any of your neighbor is selling their property let me know and we might just be neighbors. The pictures are very nice even without photo shop. No harm in submitting it as is. Well done Lyds. Mabuhay.

I still vividly remember the day I went there to photograph and meet my lifers.
The OBS, Telyds and propJery, all I saw for the first time. The OBSs were sooooo so friendly, must have taken after their host.
Beautiful and moving images Telyds! Thanks for sharing! Seeing them after the long office day makes it easier to relax.

These are simply superb, TeLyds. Too bad they didn't make it to the contest submission. But yes, just getting these captures is enough to make you a winner.

A very heartwarming and inspirational series of excellent photographs you have there Telyds... no need to photoshop.. the IQ is there, but more important is the meaning of the picture...how the shot tells a story... PP is simply polishing what is already shiny within..

WOW The best image I've seen of a feeding OBS Telyd. Big congrats, would have been a sure winner if you joined the contest. Are the birds still there?

Thanks for the kind remarks. Yep, I used one with a drop down menu but the 1200 x 800 does not crop well for my photo. It is a full frame, I don't know if that is why. . There are a couple of people who said they will help me next time. Meanwhile, I will try to find time to learn. Will check on the Paintshop you mentioned. Btw. I love the photos you posted. Now that I am out, you have a good chance... HA, HA, HA ;D telyds rolling on the floor

No harm in submitting it as is. Well done Lyds. Mabuhay. Really, Ely? BUt my garden is too small for your gear, there is no space to back off... (only in Wack-wack, there is ). Everything here is macro, ha, ha. Don't forget, I have a 300mm only. Buy a big cheap land in the countryside. I will help build you a forest garden, ala Monet's garden. Oh you can have all these birds visiting your place if you plant the right plants. My garden is wild, nothing fancy, but I have nectar plants. That is why the OSB are residents. They are fed well in my garden. I've got lots of caterpilars, too. Thank you for your comments. Very encouraging! lyd

Thank you Edu, Gabs, Mark, Dr. Boy Mac and Rey for the kind remarks. Edu, these are the same family of sunbirds you photographed. In the many years that they have been my daily recreation, this is the first time I saw a nest, very much exposed on top of may favorite Kaffir Line tree. I took hours photographing it and my arms ached and I perspired buckets. Unlike Barbets, sunbirds are overly cautious. If they notice someone closeby, they make a lot of noise and will not go near the nest. They make sure no one's watching when they approach the nest. The YVB harrass them, so are the fantails, maybe I do, too , when they feel my presence. But I'm always careful, else I will not have these shots telyds

PP is simply polishing what is already shiny within.. Wow, JV, I'm so touched! It's like winning the 7D already. But you are so right, the scene which I watched for 3 days was an affirmation of God's care for His creation. Remember, Jesus said "Look at the birds of the air..." translated, "Go, birdwatch! It is so reassuring to know why He said that. Thanks JV. telyds

HEY TINA and MELA, I miss you na. IXI, too. Actually, these birds just happened to be doing their thing at the right time and at a perfect place, just outside the window grill. I actually did practice target (Macro ha). It was like shooting a butterfly perched and in motion. I could have used my Sigma wide angle lens (darn, why didn't I?), but thought I may have a good shot for Canon. Siempre the F4L is different. And you bet Tina, IDOL, I applied the hula-hula technique. So there... charan! telyds

Woohaa!! Awesome shots in all Telyds!! With ISO 320 you can crop up to only the head would show and still the noise wouldn't be annoying.
These would surely be winners if it made it to the contest parameters!! Next time send me the files and I'll re-size it for you, just remember the crop aspect ratio is 3x2.
