Here's sharing another capture from yesterday's Candaba sortie. As the BIF flew closer to me, the distance between the bird and its BG became greater, rendering the latter more out-of-focus (and melting the BG into a desirable bokeh). This is a tough situation even for the 1DM2's AF - a terrestial background can easily attract the AF sensor's attention, while the fast changing camera-subject distance pushes the 1dm2's predictive AI servo to the limits. Sometimes, I get lucky to be able to keep the bead on the fast incoming bird, and the gear does it job. ;D Black-crowned Night-Heron ( Nycticorax nycticorax) 1DM2 + 500 f4 L IS + Canon 1.4x TC, 700 mm, f/7.1, 1/1600 sec, ISO 400, manual exposure, 475B/3421 support:

Beautiful exposure, Romy! Did you notice how full that Heron's crop is? It looks like it just gobbled a huge frog or something, hehe:)

I really love the bokeh when it's vegetation or mountains. I have a greater problem with this situation especially when the 1.4x TC is coupled with the 300 f4 IS, even more with the 2x TC. The hit and miss ratio is frustrating. Even if I have the bird centered the focusing time of this set up is so slow that I have to half press the shutter several times for the camera to adjust its focus and when it does the bird position is not ideal anymore. Really itching to go to Candaba!!!!
