catches the early bird.... I'm in Davao and luckily when I checked my things my gear was among the things that I brought along. ;D Since I have my gears with me I went to PEC, which is less than 30 min. away, from where we are staying, before everyone has woken up. We are scheduled to go to N. Cotabato early morning. Was in luck when my target bird showed up just after 30 min of walking around. Sad to say I left my remote cable and could not bring down the ISO for a smoother capture. Silvery Kingfisher ( Alcedo argentata) Endemic Vulnerable - Philippine Eagle Center, Calinan, Malagos, Davao City, May 23, 2010, 06:39 hrs. 5DM2 + 600 L f4 IS + 1.4x Sigma TC, f5.6, 1/100 sec., ISO 3200, Tv priority, + 2/3 EV, Tripod-Gimbal support, under available light. Off to North Cotabato we go.....

What a beautiful capture. I have never seen this bird except in pictures. Its so clear and sharp that it shows the bird is not all black but has a irradecent blue on its chest feathers. This is certainly a strong contender for the Canon 7D. Very well done Neon. Mabuhay.

It is a common bird in Davao according to Neon. So it can be an entry to the Common birds...;D. Bobby K and I encountered this bird also in Bohol. Common but rarely seen by people who do not live there, of course! Beautiful shot. Take home more. telyd

Great capture, Neon! Did you just get it in the public area or did you have to sneak into the trail at the back?

Supershot! Neon, withstanding the absence of the remote and the 3200 ISO. "Luckily" you brought your gear

Congrats! I was not as lucky a week ago... I am happy though the bird is okay. There's a very good reason to go back to PEC.
Cheers!

Thanks Guys! I was just really lucky that I was able to see this bird. I tried 3 (different days) more attempts to get a better capture but the bird didn't show up. Didn't even noticed the 600 was strapped on my back when I left for Mindanao. ;D Oh, it stayed long enough for a short HDV clip, will render when I find time. @ Ding - yes, it was just in the public area, two women were taking a bath just a few meters away, and yes, I still went for the KF Here's another shot, with same shooting details as above.
