It was already 5pm when we arrived Boso-boso. I thought there will be no bird sightings anymore, just bird calls. Yeah, there was a lovely birdcall. I mimicked the lovely call a couple of times walking back to the car, and lo... my afternoon delight. This is one bird that makes me break the rules. It does not seem to be threatened when I whistled back. A bird caller gadget attracts many kinds, but a whistle of the same tune attracts only this bird which seeks the caller instantly and comes close, only this time, the back was towards me. The bird is a resident in the area. Any comments about my whistling the MBF tune? telyds Mangrove Blue Flycatcher Canon 40D 300mm F4L 0.067 sec (1/15) ISO 800 f6.3 +1/3EV handheld

Nice shot, TeLyds! You should practice mimicking the calls of many birds then you'd be a bird magnet and much sought after birding buddy.

It looks like you are getting the fever of bird photography. Chances of getting a bird on a late afternoon becomes less as it gets darker. At least you got some shots of the bird you were whistling to. Well done Lyd. Mabuhay.

Oh, thank you guys- Ariel, Ka Mastah, Doc Chito, Eky, JV and Edu. . Your comments are so kind, I am again encouraged. When you hear this bird and mimic the sound, you are for a good treat, almost guaranteed. I remember Rey capturing this before in the same place. The problem always is that it perches amongst the bamboo twigs or if it exposes itself, it is too darn close that the choice is to move back but with the risk of shooing it away. Bird behaviors are very interesting. But most important is to know if our responses are threatening to them. To get a good capture is the goal, but the means cannot justify the end. Stressing the bird, creating confusion in its mating territory, or posing possible threat to its nestlings that will result in abandonment should be always in mind. telyd

Thanks you Dennis. I am very happy with the encounter but not very happy with my shot. I wish I had a tripod and did not panic. telyds
