Went birding in UP Diliman today and bumped into Rey, Val, and Doc Mando. Sharing some of the photos I got. Got me the ever sleepy nightjar. Philippine Nightjar ( Caprimulgus manillensis), Philippine endemic UP Diliman, Quezon City, 10 May 2010 EOS 40D, EF 400/5.6 L, ISO 400, f/5.6, 1/30 sec, manual exposure, 190XB/393 gimbal support, cropped Credits to Doc Mando for sharing the location of this rice muncher. White-bellied Munia ( Lonchura leucogastra) UP Diliman, Quezon City, 10 May 2010 EOS 40D, EF 400/5.6 L, ISO 400, f/5.6, 1/125 sec, manual exposure, 190XB/393 gimbal support, cropped This bird was trying to steal the show while Doc Mando and I were stalking a Hodded Pitta. Pied Fantail ( Rhipidura javanica) UP Diliman, Quezon City, 10 May 2010 EOS 40D, EF 400/5.6 L, ISO 400, f/5.6, 1/40 sec, manual exposure, 190XB/393 gimbal support, cropped, near full-frame

The Nightjar looks like a sleepy owl. I have never seen one and I guess this is my chance to capture one. Well done Mark. Mabuhay.

The nighjar is still there as of this morning and on a lower branch. Jun Obille and friends have just advised me this afternoon that there is a red-bellied pitta within their vicinity. Doc Mando yesterday has also reported a hooded pitta somewhere also within the campus. I am envious of your nightjar photograph; I have yet to have one like it. Congratulations!

Thanks Prof. Too bad I was handcuffed to my office chair when you texted about the Red-bellied Pitta.

Thanks for the comments, idol Tins, Ka Mastah, TeLyds, and Bert! Plain Idol: It's just nice that there are a lot of trees in UPD that somehow lessen the heat.
