Its super hot this summer. I have not had the urge to go out of town for a birding trip because of the punishing heat. Instead I have been going around our village trying to improve my pictures of birds found in our village. Its so hard to have nice pics of all the species. Its going to take a while.
Sylvia and I are already up to 52 species photographed in our village. I even saw a Chinese Pond Heron in breeding plumage last month. I was only able to take docu shots arrghhh, good enough for ID but not nice enough to print.
We printed some of our Alabang bird pics and they were shown in our Village General Assembly. We donated them to the village and I think they are on display in the office. Its nice that our village is a bird sanctuary and that the residents appreciate the birds. Sylvia writes in the village paper every week about bird topics. I think it raises awareness and hopefully it will make our village even more bird friendly.
This particular bird is on our street. I first saw it on April 12. It had a nest and probably had eggs already. Over the past few weeks I have been checking up on this bird. What dedication it takes to sit on a nest. The heat is unbearable but there was nothing but constant care. Finally two days ago I saw a chick moving in the nest. Cool. A little more freedom for the caregiver.
I like to think of this pic as the triumphant caregiver. Basking in her great achievement.
