we encountered this one on the trek to the river, sunday morning. i got lucky with a little sun in it's face. otherwise, it would have been a black bird with no details. we are not sure if it is a drongo as the tail is not yet fully developed. D300s, Bigma Exposure: 0.004 sec (1/250) Aperture: f/8.0 Focal Length: 500 mm ISO Speed: 400 Exposure Bias: -2/3 EV Cropped, Gimbal Support

Black birds can be difficult to photograph especially when its partially lighted. You caught the glint and it makes the bird look nice. Well done Gabs. Mabuhay.

Partner, with or without bird pics.. the company made the trip unforgettable! The RORO, the Land Rover, the Trek, the leeches, the food.. everything! I hope Mark posts his shots soon too, I think he has already recovered from his sleepless night in Mindoro. I will wake up my writing and will post that instead.

Nice Mindoro birds, Gabs! The strong bill of the first one makes it a Balicassiao for me, while the second photo seems to be of Philippine Coucals.

+1 on the ID as Phil Coucals. It was really nice that Mr. Garcellano had a Keneddy Guide with him.
Lifer gabs!!!! Philippine Coucal (mindorensis!) Congrats!

Love the light hitting the bird's face, Gabs.
I think you also got the most complete shot of the Philippine Coucal mindorensis.
