I hit the road this morning to go to one of only two places here in Costa Rica where you can find the beautiful Scarlet Macaws, the Parque Nacional de Carara. "This reserve is at a crucial meeting point between the dry tropical forests to the north and the wet rain forests to the south, which means that it’s possible to see strangler figs and deciduous kapok trees alongside acacias and cacti. Since the park is surrounded by pasture and agricultural land, it forms a necessary oasis for all the wildlife inhabiting the transitional zone" (source: Lonely Planet)400mm, 1/100s, ISO400 1/200s, ISO800 1/250s, ISO800 1/60s, f/9.0, ISO800 1/200s, ISO800 And here's how they look like from afar 400mm, f/8.0, 1/25s, ISO200

Scarlet Macaw. So beautiful that it reminds of the beautiful Scarlet O Hara in Gone with the Wind. You heart must have beating almost twice as fast when you saw them and maybe a little bit faster when you were shooting them. That is how I would feel. I am so happy for you. Well done Ariel. Mabuhay.

Love the colours and the piercing white eyes, a stunning species! I really like the composition of the portrait shots, showing the extent of those incredibly long tails. Well done!
