Finally had a chance to go out to test the 1D3. Doc Mando was kind enough to show me the location of the most photographed bird in UP these days. Glad to say that the eggs are hatched and the parent birds are now feeding the hatchlings. Regarding the camera, I think this body produces beautiful image files with a high degree of color accuracy, metering is quite accurate too. Very minimal PP work is needed, almost posted this image without any post processing. Images at ISO 1600 are very usable with acceptable level of noise that are fairly easy to remove. So far so good, just missing the reach of my 1.6 cropper (50D) and the 5 million pixels that I lost. ;D Hope to try the AI Servo this weekend. Coppersmith Barbet (Megalaima haemacephala), UP Diliman, 4-29-10 1DM3, EF500mm + 1.4X TC, f6.3, 1/640, ISO 800, Spot Metering, Manfrotto Gimbal Support

Thanks a lot Doc William and Mastah Romy. Final test which is the AF performance is the most important for me as I intend to use this a lot for BIF's. I think it will not be a problem with this particular unit, just wanting to really do some serious BIF shooting this weekend with this camera.

@ Rey your image at 1600 ISO is very clean. IMHO it's even cleaner than the MKIV. Both image are great. Hope you can post some 3200 ISO shot.

Thanks a lot folks, comments are highly appreciated. ___________________________________________________________ @ Rey your image at 1600 ISO is very clean. IMHO it's even cleaner than the MKIV. Both image are great. Hope you can post some 3200 ISO shot. Both pics are actually shot at ISO 800 which I will never do with my 50D because the noise levels are so annoying that I won't bother to post process them. By the way, these photos are also denoised because it's a part of my workflow though the noise is lot different from the 50D. I also took a lot of shots with ISO 1600 and they're really very usable though you really have to be very careful not to under expose. If you were able to "shoot to the right" then the noise levels are vey manageable. I'll try to post some shots at ISO 1600 later. Thanks again.

Wow. Wow. Great photos. I think the camera is great but the photographer is the one who made these shots into art.

Per The Butterfly Effect Theory, if one birdnut is trying out a new toy like the 1D3, then that means that another birdnut is possibly opening the box of a 1D4 at this very moment. ;D
