We were not fortunate enough to have blue skies yesterday but we were so delighted to be able to capture a rarity that was said to be photograped only twice in the country. One was by the Master Birdman in Manila Bay and one by Sir Bobby in Olango. The Black Headed Gull. 40D+400mm 5.6@400mm,1/1000/f5.6,ISO 400, Manual Exposure, Gimbal Support

@ Rey - Great Captures! I had the honor of joining the Balanga Group last Saturday. I had a great time even if we did not stay for the big morning event. It was a wonderful experience meeting for the first time the great guys of this forum. I Learned a lot from the tips and insights of the master himself, Mr. Romy Ocon and from the seasoned birders lie Rey, T.J. and Nestor. I'm already looking forward for the next sortie with you guys! Thanks Here are my humble contributions. Whiskered Tern The Black Headed Gull Egret The Balanga Team Group Hug

Superb shots, Rey and Bong! Nice to meet you guys at Balanga, together with TJ and Nestor. It was a fun shoot and the City Government of Mayor Joet Garcia was a very gracious host. Many thanks to the staff of Mayor Garcia (Abigail Tan, Billy Santos, et. al.), and Techie Banzon (Bataan's Provincial Tourism Officer) for the hospitality and the warm welcome. We thoroughly enjoyed the sortie and almost didn't want to come home.... we look forward to the next documentary sorties on Balanga birds. Here are the first few shots I processed, all with the 1DMII + 500 f4 IS + Canon 1.4x TC, manual exposure, 475B/3421 support, EXIF intact. My color-challenged eyes are finding it tough to optimize the WB for sunset/sunrise shots and white birds. The sunlit whites are warmish, while the whites in the shadows are coldish in the same frame. 1. Black-Headed Gull ( Larus ridibundus) 2. Whiskered Tern ( Chlidonias hybridus) 3. Great captures Bong! I have a shot of the Philippine Bulbul as well. So many lifers for this weekend for me!
Tina, it's good to shoot with the group again. It was to finally meet Romy, Nestor, Rey and Bong in person. Aside from having a blast, I picked up so many tips that have improved my birding. I hope we can do a sortie soon! And since I don't get to shoot that often, I did a SBC Birding Circuit. Subic-Balanga-Candaba! Now I need to start post-processing!
Romy, astounding BIF shots as usual. I've been sorting my BIF pics and I'm beginning to feel let down! But it was Romy's tips on shooting BIFs on a tripod that allowed to me take better, bu hopefully passable, BIF shots.

Gosh, golly, great shots from the three R's (Rey, Ralf, Romy). You guys really had a fun time at Balanga.
My wife saw your group photo and said, "don't you wish you were there with them?"
And I answered.....
"Yes!!!!"
Next year. ;D

Thanks, TJ, Bob and the gang..... here's a white balance nightmare. I compromised by rendering the head and farther wing nearly neutral, but allowing the sunlit body to go warm and the shadows to be a bit cold. The local officials of Orion, Bataan also paid us a visit in Candaba and I suggested that they get in touch also with your group and invite you for a photo session. I suggested that they also declare their place a bird sanctuary. Dumadami kakampi natin.
