Agree with Edu.... the first two are Blue Rock-Thrush (no. 1 is female, 2 is male). The third one looks like a Pipit species, not sure which one. The last one excites me.... it might just be a Plain Bush-Hen, but could it be a Calayan Rail instead? ?!!! Let's wait for the experts to give their opinion, I'll cross-post this at the WBCP. Please indicate specific place and date of capture in Batanes, Ronnie. Plain Bush-Hen Calayan Rail, courtesy of www.msnbc.msn.com/id/8058650/

Ok, excitement is over.... the 4th one is indeed a Plain Bush-Hen. ;D
Quoting Rene C. of WBCP:
Hi Romy
The Calayan Rail has a distinct red bill. This one in the pic has a greenish bill...thus Plain bush Hen
Regards,
Rene

The 3rd photo seems to also be a female BRT to me.
The Calayan Rail has also so far been only observed at Calayan Island. Lala Espanola (the discoverer), has scoured the neighboring Fuga Island where it was not found nor reported.
Congrats Ronnie on the Plain Bush-hen, probably the most difficult to photograph of the loud birds.

I think the first three are Blue Rock-thrush, female, male, female. The pale scaly edgings to the back and wing feathers have apparently worn off. Calayan Rail has a less deep bill at the base. Bushhen has a much deeper bill as looked at from the side, and the forehead appears to slope directly on to the bill. I think the legs of James Eaton's Calayan Rail pic are uncharacteristically yellow, owing to the website. There is another version here: orientalbirdimages.org/search.php?action=searchresult&Bird_ID=2752cheers Des

Thank you all for the ID. The bird in the first photo seems somewhat different to me as it has shiny blackish feather like that of starlings.
Anyway just for info-- the photo (and my other shots) of the Plain bush Hen was taken last April 11, 2010 at the downhill side of the landmark Lighthouse of Batanes while it was walking and sunbathing on a small patch of clearing. The above photo was when it was climbing a rock coral.
