Last week, I did a short one-and-a-half day birding sortie at Olango. The first day was quite fruitful as the tide rose to an ideal level of 1.2 meters, slowly filling most part of the sanctuary. However, the second day was not as ideal since the tide rose only by 0.7 meters. it gave me no choice but to observe the birds from afar. Nevertheless, I was blessed to capture some good photo & video images. I also had the chance to meet one of the Cebu birdnuts, sir Bobby K. I wish to thank sir Nilo Arribas for the assistance and tips in my planning for this trip. Here are some of my captures from Olango. Grey-tailed Tattler (Heteroscelus brevipes) Canon 5D Mark II, Canon 500mm F/4 IS Lens+Canon 1.4X TC, Tripod mounted Focus distance - 20.7m, FL 700mm, ISO 320, 1/1600 sec. @ F/7.1 Wimbrel (Numenius phaeopus) Focus distance - 17.5m, FL 700mm, ISO 320, 1/2500 sec. @ F/5.6 Striated Heron (Butorides striatus) Canon 1D Mark III, Canon 500mm F/4 IS Lens+Canon 1.4X TC, Tripod mounted Focus distance - 25.2m, FL 700mm, ISO 640, 1/2000 sec. @ F/7.1

I like the colors of the pics, they look summery to me! I especially like the first picture, very striking with the bluish-gray background. I also like that you got the feet of these shore birds. Nice to be able to see the feet, which are usually buried in sand or water.

These birds are all trophy to me. I have never seen them. The sun must have been very bright as I see your shutter speed is in the thousand. Was this for in case of BIF? Good looking birds. Well done Bong. Mabuhay.

Thank you Sylvia, Ely, Mark & Ka Mastah. @ Sylvia - The first photo was taken at around 12:30pm. The light was so harsh and directly above the subject. I chose to show something different after seeing those great Olango images from Ka Romy and our brother birdnuts from the south! @ Ely - I was waiting for some BIF opportunities and I forgot to change my settings.

Wow, Bong, these are all excellent captures..low angle and everything! My favorite is the Wood Sandpiper.
They are well worth the sunburn you endured.
