A lifer for me. Thanks to Desmond Allen of WBCP who identified this bird for me. Common Kestrel (Falco tinnunculus) a member of the Falcon family. Canon EOS 1D Mark IV, EF 800mm f5.6 IS L Lens, Manfrotto 475B Tripod, MF 373 Gimbal Head. All the pictures were taken with manual exposure in available light and a distance of 41.2 meters. ISO 800,400, 1/640, f10.

Wowowwww....... this is rarely photographed locally, Ely..... big congrats! Thank you Romy. That is what Des told me that it is not "Common". I guess the 4 hours plus drive was worth it.

Big big congratulations Ely! Truly rare find. I do not think this is even listed in the Kenedy guide. Mark, the kestrels in U.P. are Eurasian kestrels. I wonder if Eurasian kestrels the same as common kestrels.

I do not think this is even listed in the Kenedy guide. Mark, the kestrels in U.P. are Eurasian kestrels. I wonder if Eurasian kestrels the same as common kestrels. Thank you Mark and Prop Jerry for your appreciation. The Kennedy guide calls it Eurasian Kestrel but the scientific name is the same as that of the Common Kestrel. I believe that it is the same bird but rarely seen or photograph here in the Philippines.

I was able to take the picture of this bird on the ground one early morning and the effect of the morning light gives the bird a golden glow. Pictures were taken with manual settings in available light. ISO 800, 1/320, f8 at a distance of 41.2 meters.
