Funny name for such a beautiful migrant Val and I saw foraging along the side of the road after one of our sorties in Itvayat. Got really excited because I’ve never seen this bird before and was a sure lifer for me. It seems that the bird has just arrived from a long flight and was so hungry that it didn’t mind the passersby that are sometimes just a foot or two away from its position. It was my first time to see a bird behave this way and took the opportunity right away to get some full frame captures. The next day the bird was still in the same vicinity but it would fly away as soon as it sees us approaching from afar. We were really thankful having to find it the day before when it might actually having its first meal upon arriving in the island. By the way, the bird is quite a rare migrant, only four recorded sightings since 1981 in Batan and Calayan and our sighting is the first for Itbayat Island. Wowowowwwwwwwww!!!!! Congrats on these rare local captures, Rey... could be the first in-habitat shots of this species here. So, that's why you're so quiet the last few days - you were birding the tip of the Philippines. Looking forward to more surprises.

Beautiful bird. Beautiful shot. Taken at scalping distance from the bird. Apache Rey strikes again. This bird must be the about the size of an ETS but a lot more beautiful. Well done Rey. Mabuhay.

congrats on this rare find Rey. I remember Romy asking me to keep an eye on a possible sighting of this species in Candaba. Looks like the bird is tired from a long journey. This would be another addition to our online database

Yes, I went there with Val hoping to see some of the Island Specialist like the Japanese Paradise Flycatcher, Brown-eared Bulbul and the Green Whistling Pigeon. Thank you too Glen and Ely for the nice comments.

Congratulations Rey! What a wonderful find you had in Batanes! Would you know where it could have originated from? Cheers! Thanks a lot JV. Here's some info from Wiki: This bird is widespread throughout the forests of northern Europe and Asia. It is migratory, wintering in southern Europe, north Africa, northern Pakistan, Kashmir, northern Republic of India, China and Japan.[1] It regularly strays into Alaska during migration and may continue as far south as the western United States. Open coniferous or birch woodland is favoured for breeding.

This would be another addition to our online database Thanks JP, when I saw this I didn't even think it was in KG and had to ask Des Allen for ID. I was totally clueless about this bird. ____________________________________________________ Thank you Plain Idol Tins for the kind words.

Thank you very much Doc William, Ronnie and Gabs for the nice comments.
@ronnie, Just find some wooded areas, they're all over the island. For waders a place called Ivana where a huge coral reef comes out during low tide is a good place to go.
Val was able to take photos of a Silky Starling in the park right in the middle of Basco town.
