Birding in Coron requires a lot of walking up & down the side of a mountain along a creek that could run dry in the near future. New houses are being built as the population increases. Water from the mountains are being tap with rubber hoses to supply their water needs which is left running the whole day. There are plenty of trees and plenty of birds that feed from the trees, ground, and the creek. It would be a pity to talk about it that once upon a time we use to bird there. I strongly suggest that if you have plans of going there do it soon. The people there are friendly and don't mind our taking pictures. It is a common courtesy to ask permission and to thank them after. Canon EOS 1D Mark IV, EF 800mm f5.6 IS L Lens, Manfrotto 475B Tripod, MF 373 Gimbal Head Hooded Pitta (Pitta sordida) All the pictures were taken from a distance of 15.8 meters. ISO 1000, 1/40, f5.6 ISO 1000, 1/40, f5.6 ISO 1600, 1/100, f5.6

Beautiful captures Ely. You were able to expose it exactly to the right which is very important in high ISO shots. It's very reminiscent to me looking at the FG and BG of these images, seems exactly where I got this pretty bird too, two years ago.

Because of all the birds that I saw, photograph, and missed it was a very enjoyable trip.

Very beautiful bird well captured Ely, congrats! Thank you Romy. I agree with you that it is a beautiful bird and to me it resembles a miniature colored penguin. Heh heh heh.

Very nice capture of such a beautiful bird! Exposure and quality are both excellent at high ISO. Congratulations, Ely! Thank you Ariel. I have to travel by air to get to this place, pay for my hotel and food, hire the services of a guide, and bring my stuff to take pictures of birds but it was all worth it. If I were you, I will spend all my free time taking pictures of the birds of Costa Rica that are so beautiful. Mabuhay.

This bird is one in the top of my list. No close encounter of this species yet. For now I'll be contented with beautiful shots like this. It's like I am in a front row viewing this magnificent capture. Great shot sir Ely. Nice gears you really have.

Great set Ely. You really love going to Coron. When you get pics like this its really understandable. It makes all the trouble worth it. Thank you Tonji. I love going to Coron because there is no other place that I have been to that has a wide variety of birds. I would compare Mulawin the bird guide like a fish finder only he is a human bird finder. Without him I would not see that many birds. Mabuhay.

Lovely looking Pita Ely. I hope you have the GPS coordinates handy. May I know how you arrived in Coron? Thank you Paolo. I do not have a GPS gadget but I have something that is better than a GPS. My bird guide who people call Mulawin can hear, see, and maybe even smell a bird. When he hears the call of a bird he will tell you what kind of a bird it is without even seeing it. He would know where to go and before you even get to see it, there is the bird. He has this uncanny talent of knowing where the birds are. His ears and eyes are as sharp as a double edge sword. I highly recommend that you get him if you plan to go to Coron.
