Sylvia, Franco (our son) and I were in Banaue this weekend with Ixi, Neon, Aphine, Tina, and Wency. We all got to see this special bird very well. It was first reported and photographed by JP. We had four lifers on this trip but if I were to choose I would say this bird was the highlight for me. I had a great angle on the bird and was able to get the whole bird in focus and blur the BG very well. The light was nice and soft at this spot you would not think it was just past noon. I was very lucky with this shot. Luzon Water-RedstartRhyacornis bicolorCanon 5Dmk2, 500mm, 1.4x tc, 1/250, f7.1, ISO 320, Tina's Bean Bag

Wow!! The money shot!! When it was my turn to photograph, the construction workers started filling-up the cement mixer which went right into the pool where the redstarts were hanging around, have to carry my rig over crumbly soil and rock to the other side.

Wow, what a chubby looking bird. Reminds me of Tubby of the Little Lulu comic strip. I like the glint on his eyes. I presume this is male because of the beautiful colors. Well done Tonji. Mabuhay.

Wow! It looks like the bird really posed here for you. Very nice and very sharp as well. The soft light made it even beautiful.

Thanks for the great comments guys. I am very happy with this shot. We birders all know how much luck we need to get a nice photo, this was one of those lucky moments.
