While low tide in Olango exposed a long stretch of beach the high tide rushed in to reclaim it. I noticed the high tide coming in, pushing the birds together in flocks towards the edges of still dry land. So I rushed to the likely spot where the birds would get pushed.
The water covered the land at around 5 feet per minute so the birds were constantly moving. I had to constantly move myself to keep up with the birds and stay away from the water. In no time at all I was so far away from the hide and cut off without dryland to walk on.
You can see from these pictures that the water is heading towards me. Ack. Hehe. I knew the tide would peak at around 1.5 feet but with all the gear I was carrying it was still cause for a little concern.
When the water rushes in bubbles form where the water comes into contact with the dry land. It even makes a sound. So cool.
I tried taking the wading flock but it looked a bit confusing with all the birds in focus. So I played around with my DOF, focusing on a bird in the middle of the flock, the back and also the front. I liked the front focus effect best.
