For the Canon shooters among us, free downloads for the industrial-grade Digital Photo Professional (DPP) 3.2 and the user-friendly ZoomBrowser EX 6.0.1 are now available from Canon-USA website. The new DPP 3.2 has a lens aberration correction feature, plus more enhancements. The new ZB EX 6.0.1 has a lot of new features too, including a friendlier UI with the Raw Image Task (RIT) and much faster conversion speed. I also recommend the download of the PDF instruction manuals for DPP and ZB EX - very informative and well written. Let me add:
If you're wondering which converter is better for EOS RAWs - CS3 ACR or DPP - my personal opinion is it's a tie.
There are colors and detail which DPP can extract better. OTOH, there are exposure challenges which ACR can easily recover via its user-friendly UI. I actually use both - my default RAW converter is ACR simply because it's seamlessly integrated with CS3. When I'm not happy with its rendition, then I open DPP to try another route.
ZB EX meanwhile is simple and easy to use, but slower and less sophisticated than the first two. It also produces less noise, at the expense of reduced detail recovery. If one wishes to emulate on-camera jpegs, just use ZB EX's default or as shot settings during conversion.
