I went with Ray to Subic and it was a "birdfull" day as we saw several kinds of birds. The most beautiful bird, which was a lifer for me, that day was the Blue-naped Parrot, also locally know as "Pikoy". The Kennedy Guide Book describes it as "Near Endemic - Uncommon". I do not know why its near endemic. I always thought its either endemic or not. Perhaps someone can explain. Heh heh heh. Canon 1D M4, EF 800mm f5.6 IS L Lens, Bean Bag on car window, All pictures taken with ISO 800 1/200 @f5.6 Blue-naped Parrot (Tanygnathus lucionensis), also known as the Blue-crowned Green Parrot, Luzon Parrot, the Philippine Green Parrot, and locally known as Pikoy.

Hi Ely, congrats on the lifer! I think this species is found in other countries.
It looks like a challenging photo to expose since the bird is backlit. But you did a great job with the exposure on the bird.
You must be loving the 1D Mk4!

Excellent detail, very nice captures Ely!
It is classified as near endemic because it also ranges in some islands off Borneo.

Good catch! Congratulations! It is only "near-endemic" because there is a thriving colony of about 80 ferral/escapee individuals within a seashore public park in Kinabalu which is, of course, not in the Philippines. Maybe we should go there, catch them all, and release them back in the Philippines.

Wow, it came out beautifully despite the difficult backlight. Great handling of the exposures Ely. 1D4 seems like the best match for your 800. Post the other lifers na.

Tons of details on the BNP Ely. Congratulations on the lifer.
Btw, the term "near-Endemic" is often used on birds that would have been classified as Endemic if not for small populations in islands outside of the Philippines. In this case, BNP populations in some islands of Borneo/Indonesia.

Who knows someday we might have a chance to go there and see what other birds they have there.

These are my best pictures and I think the others are for record purposes only. I am still waiting for the delivery of my unit.

Ely great capture. Your 800 and 1D4 are a swell match made in heaven. BTW you may want to change the EXIF data of your photo. Someone other than yourself is taking credit for your work.
