Hi, please help me id these birds. These were taken this week in Olango. Thanks a lot! Bird #1 The bird on the right is a Bar Tailed Godwit. Is the bird on the left a Bar Tailed Godwit in breeding plumage? Its tail looks bar-less! Bird #2 Same bird as in the first picture. It has a green leg band. Bird #3 Are birds #3-5 the same kind of bird? Bird #4 Bird #5 You can see the long, black bill. Bird #6 Is this a Rufous Necked Stint?

Hello Sylvia, My quick thoughts on these (no reference) Bird #1: Bar-tailed Godwit in partial breeding plumage. Bird #2: Bar-tailed Godwit also in partial breeding plumage. You mentioned “green” band. However, it appears that leg flags are “black over white”. This bird was probably flagged at Chongming Dao, China. I think the current positions of the leg flag reflects placement after April 2006. WOW congrats Sylvia, I need to go back to Olango again this week just for this bird!!! Bird #3: Looks like a combination of Great Knots (partial breeding plumage), Curlew Sandpipers and Grey-tailed Tattlers. Bird #4: Great Knots (partial breeding plumage) Bird #5: Looks like Great knots too. Bird #6: I have to see the books for the stint Lets wait for the inputs from the experts in the forum. Thanks for sharing. Nilo

Thanks Nilo! The guide (I don't know his name!) was telling us about a bird with flags .. unfortunately I only got the gist of it since I don't understand Cebuano. So I'm not sure if he was talking about this bird or another bird. I think there was also another bird with flags that he spotted that wasn't in the guidebook. I think.
The green band is on the other leg .. in my other pictures I could see the color more clearly. Thanks for the info about the flags and band. Very interesting, I appreciate it!
