This downy young of Porphyrio porphyrio might be a leading candidate for the unprettiest young bird in Candaba, but it sure gave me the opportunity to use my favorite new word again - pullus. ;D 40D + 500 f4 L IS + Canon 1.4x TC, bean bag, EXIF intact And the brood of three pulli with one of the parents - 40D + 500 f4 L IS + Canon 1.4x TC, bean bag, EXIF intact: Romy

He-he. A face only a mother can love.
But we all know the story of the ugly duckling.

Nice family portrait Tina! Let's do a take 2 on Banaue when the weather clears. I'm planning another trip there when I get off, especially Mt. Polis going down the other side looks like a promising area to bird. Cheers,

Nice. By the way, it should probably be expected that sooner or later somebody sets hand to the Porphyrio porphyrio complex (it is not monophyletic as is known - means that there is certainly more than one species involved) - almost certainly when sufficient studies are done the Philippine taxon pulverulentus will be split as a good species...
