Hi I'm Keith from worldbirds.awardspace.com I would like to give all the birds in the Philippines there Philippine names. I understand that Tagalog is the most widespread language so can anyone help. There are now several links to this forum from the world bird web site and forum. You have some fantastic birds and I hope one day to come and see them for myself. Good Birding Keith

Hi Keith, Most of the Philippine birds have their local names. As a matter of fact, same birds have different names in other regions. Cebuano is widely used in Visayas and Mindanao and some birds in the south have Cebuano names. If we give them new names, there might be confusion. Lyd

Hi Keith, Yes, Lydia is right. There are so many dialectical differences applied to the local fauna within the Philippines, that it is just very iffy. I do know that Ed inson (of Howard & Moore fame) is currently backing a project for a very large cross-referenced bird name Encyclopedia - but, I do not have a launch date, and I do not know if Tagalog will be included.
EDIT: apparently there is some type of built-in word censor on this Forum. I am sure that you will understand that that "inson" is only the last part of a proper patronymic!
By the way, I took a look at your site - you are listing upwards of 6,000 bird species - it should be noted that there are a great number of missed ID's on the web and that you hopefully have a great panel of competent people vetting the photos. When in doubt, you could ask the photographer to slip an occasional photo onto the forums at Birdforum.net, or onto the flickr Bird Field Guide group - I don't have that much time any more for BirdForum, but I do still do ID's on flickr.
The two videos - the Pilansberg video is beyond hope - I defy anybody to get that one. The other one looks like soloensis to me.

Hi Keith, In the Bicol Region they called all small birds like the OBS which is very common "pitsew" or "pisew" problem is even the Low Land White-eyes are also called "pitsew"
Like in Nigeria all egrets are called "eyei-leke leke"
