The docu pics below show how Ospreys in Candaba Swamp hunt and dive. I just wished I had a 7D or 5DM2 so i could have taken a good video of its behavior. January 9, 2010 First, it hovers above looking for a prey. Then, it starts to dive once it sees a target. Zooming at full speed towards the water. As it nears the water, it prepares for the final dive. In its final approach, it perfectly executes a diving form - feet first! And dive it really does, all its body penetrating the water. It resurfaces as soon as it dives. Head first to get air, it struggles to get out of the water with its wings performing like the strong arms of a swimmer. Then it flaps its wings as it begins to ascend. Flapping to raise its body out of the water, and shake off the water from its body. Flapping still to begin its flight. Up it goes with a prey on its claws! Up and away with its big catch. It's lunch time for sure! Canon 50D + EF 400mm + Benro C-269m8 Tripod + GH-1+PL-85.... 1/1000, f6.3, iso320

Wow!! Great series, Alain!! Good job in documenting the Osprey going for the kill!! Yup, a 7D would have definitely produced more frames!!

Wow..... great documentation, Alain.... I'd gladly exchange one of my kidneys for the opportunity to shoot the following couple of frames!!! Flapping to raise its body out of the water, and shake off the water from its body. Flapping still to begin its flight.

Very nice indeed! It hunts much like the Brahminy Kite, it seems. :-)

Super series Alain. The whole sequence is the stuff of bird photography dreams. The 7d may have helped you stay locked on target. But even without the 7d this is still great stuff.

I agree that even without the 7D, these pictures certainly is a "dream shot" for any bird photographer. Congratulations!
