Since breaking the 200 bird species barrier a couple of years ago, photo-lifers have become few and far between for this birdnut. A capture of a new bird - a male Mallard - is thus very welcome, and that brings my species count to 264. ;D Mallard ( Anas platyrhynchos, migrant, male) Habitat - rare in wetlands. Shooting info - Candaba wetlands, Jan. 14, 2010, 7D + 400 2.8 IS + Canon 1.4x TC, 475B/3421 support, f/5.6, ISO 400, 1/1600 sec, manual exposure in available light, 49.7 m distance. More Candaba Quackers to follow.

Thanks, Toto and Plain Idol! Anybody ever wondered why this is called a pintail? ;D Northern Pintail ( Anas acuta, migrant, male) Habitat - wetlands from marshes to lakes. Thanks, Nilo! Our own native quacker deserves a less boring background and some sweet "just before sunset" light. ;D Philippine Duck ( Anas luzonica, a Philippine endemic) Habitat - Freshwater marshes, shallow lakes and ricefields. Shooting Info - Candaba wetlands, Pampanga, January 13, 2010, 7D + 500 f4 IS, f/5.0, ISO 400, 1/1600 sec, 475B/3421 support, manual exposure in available light

Three beautiful and smiling ducks. The Pintail is magnificent with its turn and perfect expression of its name. I can only dream of ever taking pictures like these. Very very well done Romy. Mabuhay.

what a way to start my morning! Seeing these incredible pics! Sir, does the pintail fly like that always? I mean with the neck/head positioned like that? This would be easier to spot than looking for the tail.

Thanks, Ely, Edu, William and Bong! Sir, does the pintail fly like that always? I mean with the neck/head positioned like that? This would be easier to spot than looking for the tail. Not sure if they always fly like this, but the male is easily spotted because of the white stripe up its neck. Fantastic BIF's Romy. Is this your new 7D which you returned to Canon? This is still with the service 7D unit, which is a good copy. CMPI is still processing the papers for the new replacement unit (they decided at the onset that they'll replace), but I'm not hurrying them up.... they can take all the time they want in processing. I've logged several thousand actuations on the service unit, which could've been wear and tear on my new 7D (might have to pick up the new one next week though ).

I just didn't want to make the same mistake of saying "I saw an egret over there flying in a strange way.. it's neck wasn't folded." and someone answering me with "Spoonbill yun! Di mo kinuhaan???!!" ;D
