These are my pics from the Jan 2 La Mesa Dam trip courtesy of most popular guy on the forum, Ding Carpio! Thank you Ding! I was a little apprehensive about the trip. I was expecting somewhat rough conditions. The reality turned out to be the opposite! It was a very pleasant morning spent birding and boating! The water was very flat and glassy, the boat was comfy, the wind was cool, the company was great, and the birds were cooperative! Grey-Headed Fish EagleThe Fish Eagle looks like it's missing a pair of pants! 6.3, 1/2000, iso 400 Osprey Looking Majestic and then ..4.5, 1/2000, iso320 Osprey Doing His Business While Purple Heron Flies By4, 1/3200, iso1000 Common KingfisherIf you look closely, you can see the face of the fish being held by the Common Kingfisher. If this was a LOT closer, this would have been my dream shot! 7.1, 1/640, iso500 Common Kingfisher with a Fish7.4, 4/100, iso500 Canon 5dMkII + 300 2.8 + 1.4x monopod

Outstanding shots in all Sylvia!! Love the fish face on the CKF fish. I think, since the ventral side of the fish is shown, it's actually the gills that are showing with the operculum partially open, anyway the fish looked startled...hehehe You got a lifer too!! That's and endemic species of gobby the CKF caught!! Will have to look for the name though. ;D Thought your suppose to be on the road now?

You are right, his pants are missing. The bird looks like he is going to a formal and forgot to put his pants on. I like the last two pictures of the CKF, as I like Kingfishers. The pictures are sharp. I wonder if the small fish is what they call a "Bia". They do grow a lot bigger and gets very tasty. You can even see a part of a spider web on the last picture. Well done Sylvia. Mabuhay.

If the GHFE were crouched, it appears that he may have forgotten his pants but not his jockeys. I sorta think it looks like superheroes who put on their tights before their briefs. That KF is a great shot. It was amusing that the rest of the boat were shooting the Osprey while you actually shot a better photo with that KF. Congrats!

Wonderful set Sylvia. You're take on the GHF Eagle is quite funny. Love the way you caught the CKF in the air, that's not easy to do.
