I went to Villa Escudero with one thing on my mind, and that is to take a good picture of the resident Indigo Banded Kingfisher. I have to admit that on this trip, I failed to get a good capture of this bird. However I am not disappointed for I was able to capture four lifers and two of them were endemic. I met Bong with his daughter Tricia and of course the "Alaga of Marikit", Mela. The lunch was delicious and if the opportunity arises I shall return for Marikit and her loved one that I did not even get to see. A Merry Christmas to all of you. Mabuhay. All pictures were taken with Canon 5DM2, EF 800mm F5.6 IS L Lens, Manfrotto 475B Tripod, MF 373 Gimbal Head Indigo-banded Kingfisher (Alcedo cyanopectus), Endemic ISO 800, 1/20, f5.6 Gray-backed Tailorbird (Orthotomus derbianus), Endemic ISO 800, 1/50, f5.6 Black-naped Monarch or Black-naped Blue Flycatcher (Hypothymis azurea) ISO 800, 1/60, f5.6 Mangrove Blue-flycatcher (Cyornis rufigastra)ISO 1600, 1/40, f5.6 Red-keeled Flowerpecker (Dicaeum haematostictum), Endemic ISO 400, 1/100, f5.6

Nice series here Ely. I like the Philippine Tailorbird. I think I don't have a photo of that bird yet. But my favorite is your Black naped monarch. Great sharp details and very good exposure even with the bright background and the white parts of the front of the bird. Personally I think its one of my favorites of the pictures you have taken. Next to the feeding 1-2-3 series of the Black naped Oriole. Great work and Merry Christmas.

I like that place too and I am thinking of buying some water boots to be able to withstand the cold water from the fall. Its a beautiful place. For me its like a little paradise.

You have said this several times before and I have always appreciated your kind and favorable comments. I have made a suggestion to you several times but I won't say it now as I know you have just spent a considerable amount of money on your new lenses and cameras for you and your love one. By the way thanks for the tip on your text message. Merry Christmas to you & Sylvia.

Great harvest you got there, Ely. The tailorbird is the sharpest photo that I have seen. This is one bird which is often heard but seldom seen. The monarch is beautiful. Merry Christmas

That trip certainly made your Christmas - 4 lifers in a day, and all very well posed too! The monarch stands out, but the rest are pretty neat too! :-)

Wow! What a haul- Ely. I didn't expect this. Always a joy to see our Diva but the Greyback Tailorbird and the Black-nape monarch is a lovely surprise. The tailorbirds move a lot in the undergrowth so that is a catch indeed! The Black-naped Monarch is beautiful.
I always get a thrill seeing the images of the birds here. It's like portraits of my babies. ;D
Thanks Ely - A memorable Christmas set for me.

Wooooooooooow. I love the tailorbird shot! So sharp! Thank you Toto. Mela was telling us about the Tailorbird as we walk down to the falls. I was not excited about it because my mind was on the IBK. After a few encounters with Marikit, Bong went to another area. About half an hour later Bong motioned me to go to him. I followed and it was there that we saw different kinds of birds jumping around a fruiting tree. Our hearts were jumping with excitement. They would come and go and move a lot. When I saw the Tailorbird, for the first time, I noticed that it has a beautiful color combination. I found out later that it was also endemic. Bong & I were lucky to see several kind of birds in one day.

I find it wonderful that it has the name of our country before it just like the Philippine Eagle. The color of the Black-naped Monarch is so beautiful, I don't know if they have a name for this kind of blue. If not, Monarch blue could be a good description of the color. I have not forgotten your Diva. I shall return for her and also for her better half. Heh heh heh. Mabuhay.
