I'd have passed over shooting this Collared Kingfisher because the light was too harsh and the angle too steep. But Neon and I had a chuckle watching it at San Juan, Batangas. It was fishing at a dried up pond, and it tried very hard to keep its rear section immaculate - by raising its tail to a funny looking position. It kept that tail position the whole time it was on the mud. ;D Collared Kingfisher ( Todiramphus chloris) San Juan, Batangas, October 30, 2009 EOS 7D + 400 2.8 L SI + Canon 1.4x TC, f/5.6, ISO 320, 1/2000 sec, 475B/3421 support, 20.4 m shooting distance

Of course! It'd rather have a soiled face than a muddy tail, he, he, he...

Hehehe. Never mind to have muddy wings as long as the tail is clean

Interesting behaviour of the bird. Better to have a clean butt than a clean mouth. Hehehe

Thanks, folks. Now we know why egrets have such long legs.... tough to maintain a white plumage with short legs like a KF when one wades in the mud for a living.

I think the position of the tail is kept that way so it can take off anytime. The picture is superb. Well done Romy. Mabuhay.
