I used to wet-clean my 1D2, 20D and older bodies using Pec Pads, Eclipse and a swab made from a cut out credit card. It works great, and it saves me a lot of downtime had I sent the bodies for cleaning at Canon service instead.
Since I bought my 40D and later the 5D2, I haven't developed a need to wet-clean the newer sensors. The sensor auto-clean was doing the job well, and I just need to use an air blower once in a while.
Well, today I finally got a stubborn dust in the center of my 5D2 sensor, which can't be dislodged by blowing air or by the sensor auto clean. I might just bring the camera to Canon for sensor cleaning because my viewfinder (focusing screen actually) also needs cleaning.
But for subsequent sensor cleaning (assuming my focusing screen stays clean), I intend to do the job myself, as I did before. A wet-cleaning kit (Pec Pad, Eclipse and swab) is a standard accessory for me in long trips because the sensor might be splattered with lube from shutter box mechanicals, and that can ruin the sortie if it can't be cleaned onsite.
Has anybody with a 5D2 wet-cleaned the camera himself? What method?
