The celebrity bird of Villa Escudero, fittingly named Marikit (which means flickering, sparkling, beautiful light) to me represents the star and the sun in the Philippine flag- red and blue with the burning color on her breast which symbolizes the "alab ng puso" (fervour burning, heart on fire). I love going to Villa Escudero not only because of our avian friends but also because of the rural atmosphere, the Filipino culture kept alive. If you have not been there or have not watched their cultural shows, please go. Entering the sprawling Cultural Resort is like being moved back in time... nostalgic. Early November 30, when most guests were still asleep (even birder housemates Arnel and Tintin) I took an early walk and met the Supremo.Canon 40D 300mm F4L 0.02 sec (1/50) Aperture: f/4.0 hand held, ISO 800, the SWKF perched on a branch, dimly lit- yep, full frame again.

Another full frame- I am a macro photographer, don't forget . The Supremo sat about 3 meters away. It was the best breakfast appetizer I had in VE (so far). Here are two more takes out of 50 I think . Exposure: 0.077 sec (1/13) Aperture: f/4.0 ISO 800 Exposure: 0.067 sec (1/15) Aperture: f/4.0 ISO 800

Thank you Ka Mastah for the kind and encouraging remarks. I was suprised myself that with my hula-hula settings, it came out well. I was very happy that this tame bird did not bother my changing settings and allowed me to come closer. As I have said to Ka Mela, the Lord is good to those who love His creation. Ka Mela is jubilant from ear to ear when she saw the shot. Me, too. Very happy, telyd

Amazing! They know if the visitor is a threat or not.
If I go to VE, how do I know where to find these nice birds. Is there a guide? Or is there a map which would lead me to these nice birds?

It's not everyday one sees Telyds running towards her room half a kilometer away and shouting "LOW BATT! LOW BATT!" A quick glimpse of an image had me jumping out of my seat as well. This particular individual stayed long enough for her to return despite a constant flow of staff in red taking turns ogling not 4 meters away, and Telyds still taking time to shoot some flowers on her way back. ''....and allowed me to closer." From what I gathered you nearly poked it in its eye before it flew off to investigate another individual calling downstream. ;D I like the lower right image because I know the bird was checking you out. A beautiful image with a memorable story. If the spirits favor you, the birds will come.
